Brunei-Philippine gas pipeline studied- Topic: Oil and Gas News
A REPORT from the Philippines has stated that the merits of a Trans-Asean Gas Pipeline between Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines is currently being studied at Asean level, with a potential US$3 billion needed to establish the infrastructure for the connection between the two nations. The Philippines Daily Inquirer (on their website) reported that Angelo Reyes, Energy Secretary at the Philippines Department of Energy, said the Philippines is now looking at the possibility of connecting the Philippines to a proposed Trans-Asean Gas Pipeline (TAGP) via a link between the western island of Palawan and the sultanate which is further south of the Philippines. The basis of this cost is the Philippines complex 500km pipeline from the Malampaya field on the Philippines’ seabed to a station in the Batangas province, south of Manila which cost US$1. Meanwhile, the report highlighted the government’s Philippine National Oil Company estimates a ballpark figure upwards of US$3 billion would be needed to connect the Philippines to other gas reserves in the Asean region via a pipeline linking the Malampaya gas field off Palawan to a gas field in Brunei Darussalam. read more
