Gas price at record high for holiday - Uniontown Herald Standard- Topic: Gas Prices

AAA is expecting an increase in holiday travel this year despite soaring gasoline prices. Bevi Powell, director of communications for AAA, said Thursday that the average price locally is the same as the national average but warned that with oil prices fluctuating between $90 and $100 a barrel, the ceiling for gasoline prices could continue to rise. While the prices are rocketing to new highs, Powell said that AAA’s travel forecast is still expecting an increase of more than 1 percent in holiday travel compared to 2006 figures. Guy Caruso, who heads the federal Energy Information Administration, told Reuters this week that fuel prices have yet to completely reflect the increase in oil prices and estimated that gasoline could increase an additional 20 cents if oil prices remain at their current levels. Whatever price gasoline might reach, Powell said AAA is advising motorists to save some extra money for gas in case more increases occur as the holidays approach. read more
