The Marcellus Shale covers parts of 4 states, and the gas buried 6,000 feet underground could bolster U. Scientists have known about the gas for decades, but have only recently figured out a possible - if expensive - way to extract it. Stephen Rhoads, president of the Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Association, says the year ahead could be - quote - “very significant.
