Saving Energy the Best I Can

I am making a concerted attempt to save energy. After all I make and sell an energy-saving product, FFT Fuel-Saver.

But wait! This week I bought a propane fired instant hot water heater. I am close to making a decision on which pellet stove we’ll buy to help us get through the next winter. Whoooa! Hey Frank, I said to myself, "these products can’t even use FFT Fuel-Saver – What are you thinking?".

After a long pause I decide that its all about choices – especially good choices. I used about 750 gallons of heating oil to heat the house and the hot water. Last year I got a lock @ $2.42; this year it could be $4.84 a gallon or $3630.00 You’ve got to be kidding.

So the propane folks tell me that the 2 of us could use less than 300 gallons propane for a years hot water at about a bit less than $800. the pellet folks claim that 3 tons ought to heat the house and realitically supplement some oil on the coldest days. Pellets $900 or even $660 if I can get a deal for a ‘guy who knows a guy’. So I’m looking at arround $1700 in fuel for a year’s heat and hot water.

Am I going to spend less this year – not really. I still have to buy and install the pellet stove (I figure abut $1500) and I’ve got $900 into the water heater. So I’m over budget this year but I should be just fine next year.

So what about my oil? Well I’ve still got a half a tank. There’s my suplimental heating. The good news is that I probably will not buy any oil this heating season. I am cutting demand and maybe if enough folks do the same; oil prices will stabilize and maybe drop.
