New legislation making car dealers display a fuel economy label on their vehicles is leaving a sour taste in the mouths of some Timaru dealers. I have no problem with the fuel consumption, advising people what fuel consumptions are, but the Government can't even get that right," Mr Bradley said, saying two formulas had been used to calculate fuel consumption, one for new cars and one for second hand cars. Even with the figure, Mr Bradley said it is difficult to calculate the economy of a car because people's driving techniques, car condition, changing fuel prices and terrain conditions will alter how much fuel is consumed. Henshaw Quality Cars' joint owner Keith White said while fuel economy is a big thing for a number of prospective car buyers, a lot of people still want a particular make or model of car, regardless of the fuel economy. read more
